By completing the wheel of life assessment before we can change anything, we get to see things clearly. The Wheel of Life gives you a “bird’s-eye view” of your life as it is today — so you can spot patterns, imbalances, and possibilities for real growth.
You will notice that the new life midlife wheel of life I have created uses the chakras as a base. This bridges Western self-development with Eastern philosophy. I have done this becasue when you look at the energy themes between the two concepts, they align surprisingly well.
| Life Wheel Segment | Chakra | Core Theme |
|---|---|---|
| Finances / Security | Root (Muladhara) | Survival, stability, and your "foundation." |
| Romance / Fun & Recreation | Sacral (Svadhisthana) | Creativity, pleasure, and emotional connection. |
| Career / Personal Power | Solar Plexus (Manipura) | Confidence, willpower, and your identity in the world. |
| Family / Friends / Community | Heart (Anahata) | Love, compassion, and social belonging. |
| Communication / Expression | Throat (Vishuddha) | Truth, integrity, and being heard. |
| Personal Growth / Learning | Third Eye (Ajna) | Intuition, wisdom, and "seeing" your path clearly. |
| Spirituality / Contribution | Crown (Sahasrara) | Connection to the divine or a higher purpose. |
Why This Matters
When a segment of your Wheel of Life is "deflated" (scored low), you can often feel the physical or emotional symptoms in the corresponding chakra.
The Foundation: If your Finances are a mess, you might feel ungrounded or anxious (Root Chakra imbalance). No matter how much you work on "Spirituality," you'll feel off-balance if your base isn't secure.
The Bridge: The Heart Chakra acts as the bridge between the physical areas (money, sex, power) and the spiritual areas (growth, intuition). This is why having healthy Relationships often makes the rest of the wheel feel more integrated.
The Expression: If your Career is great but you aren't allowed to be yourself, your Solar Plexus (power) might be high, but your Throat (truth) will feel blocked.
It is worth noting that the Wheel of Life usually has 8 sections, while there are 7 primary Chakras. Usually, "Health/Environment" gets folded into the Root Chakra (physicality), as both represent your immediate physical vessel and surroundings.
At midlife, people often feel a "soul stir" where the physical life (lower chakras) and the spiritual legacy (upper chakras) need to finally integrate. By linking these concepts you will get a deeper "why" behind your scores.
The New Life / Midlife Assessment Guide
Here are 8 categories (splitting the Root into two for a balanced wheel) with specific questions to consider.
1. Physical Environment & Vitality (Root Chakra)
2. Finances (Root/Sacral)
3. Joy, Fun & Creativity (Sacral Chakra)
4. Career & Personal Power (Solar Plexus)
5. Love & Relationships (Heart Chakra)
6. Self-Expression & Truth (Throat Chakra)
7. Personal Growth & Intuition (Third Eye)
8. Contribution & Spirit (Crown Chakra)
In midlife especially, many people feel something is “off,” yet struggle to name exactly what. By doing a Wheel of Life Assessment you get to bring some clarity. A Wheel of Life assessment gives you a visual snapshot of your current life balance.
The assessment will show you which areas feel nourished, which feel neglected, and where small changes could make the biggest difference.
Doing the Wheel of Life assessment is a powerful action to take, not just once but repeated as you make changes in your life so you can measure the difference it is making and tweak as needed.
This isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about seeing yourself honestly and being kind to yourself so you can choose your next steps with confidence.
Hover over each section of the wheel to see how your life areas connect to your body's energy centers.
The Wheel of Life is a reflective self-assessment tool used in coaching, therapy, and personal development. It divides your life into key areas — drawn as segments of a circle. You rate your current satisfaction in each area, then connect the points to form a “wheel.”
A balanced life creates a smoother, rounder wheel.
An imbalanced life creates a jagged shape — revealing where attention is needed.
The beauty of the tool is its simplicity. No long questionnaires. No complicated analysis. Just honest noticing.
Typical life areas include:
You can rename or adjust these — because this wheel is about your life, not anyone else’s template.
Midlife is often a turning point. Children grow up. Careers shift. Bodies change. Priorities evolve. What once mattered may no longer feel aligned.
Many people try to make big changes without first understanding where imbalance truly exists. The Wheel of Life slows everything down just enough to create insight — without overwhelm.
It helps you:
This is where real transformation begins — not with pressure, but with awareness.
Step 1 - Prepare Your Wheel
Draw a simple circle divided into eight segments. Label each segment with the life area detailed in the table below. The benefit of drawing the wheel is that it gives you a good visualisation of how your wheel looks. Just completing the table will not give you this.
Step 2 - Tune In Before You Rate
Take a breath.
This is not a test.
There are no right answers.
Ask yourself the questions below:
How satisfied do I feel in this area right now — today?”
Step 3 - Rate Each Area
Using a scale of 0–10:
Place a dot on each spoke of the wheel to represent your rating. Then join the dots.
Your wheel shape now tells a story.
| Life Area | Chakra | The "New Life" Question | Score (1-10) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Environment | Root | Does your home and workspace energize you or drain you? | |
| 2. Finances | Root | Do you feel secure and in control of your financial future? | |
| 3. Joy & Creativity | Sacral | Are you making time for pure play and creative expression? | |
| 4. Career & Impact | Solar Plexus | Does your daily work align with your true power and identity? | |
| 5. Relationships | Heart | Do you feel deeply connected and supported by those around you? | |
| 6. Authentic Truth | Throat | Are you speaking your truth or staying quiet to keep the peace? | |
| 7. Personal Growth | Third Eye | Are you investing in your wisdom and trusting your intuition? | |
| 8. Life Purpose | Crown | Do you feel connected to a higher calling or sense of legacy? |
Step 4 - Observe Without Judgement
Look at your completed wheel and notice:
This step alone often brings powerful insight. Many people realise they’ve been giving energy to areas that don’t truly matter to them anymore — while neglecting what their heart is calling for.
A Guided Deep-Dive Reflection Exercise
Now that you’ve seen your wheel, let’s explore what it means.
Take one life area at a time and reflect on the questions below. Write your answers in a journal.
1. What does this area mean to me personally?
For example:
“Health means having the energy to enjoy my grandchildren.”
“Relationships mean feeling seen and understood.”
Defining meaning reconnects you with your values.
2. Why did I give this score?
Be honest but gentle.
“I rated career as a 3 because I feel stuck.”
“I rated friendships as a 7 because I feel supported.”
Clarity replaces vague dissatisfaction.
3. What would a one-point improvement look like?
Not a complete transformation. Just one step.
“If health moved from 4 to 5, I would walk three times a week.”
“If finances moved from 3 to 4, I would review my monthly spending.”
Small shifts create sustainable momentum.
4. What belief might be influencing this area?
For example:
“I’m too old to start again.”
“I must always put others first.”
“I don’t deserve more.”
This is where deeper self-discovery begins — and where meaningful change becomes possible.
5. What one small action will I take this week?
Choose something realistic.
Not perfection. Just progress.
Many people look at their wheel and feel tempted to fix everything. But real growth happens when you focus on just one priority area at a time.
Ask yourself:
Trust your intuition. It already knows.
The Wheel of Life as a Living Practice
Your wheel is not a one-time exercise.
It’s a living check-in with yourself.
Return to it every few months.
Notice what has shifted.
Celebrate what’s improved.
Re-align where needed.
Over time, your wheel becomes a visual record of your personal evolution — proof that change is happening, even when it feels subtle day to day.
Common Insights People Discover
